Beni Ourain Rug
Our Beni Ourain rugs are handwoven in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco by women from the Beni Ourain tribe — a Berber confederation that has been making these rugs for over a thousand years. Every piece is knotted on a vertical loom from 100% undyed, natural sheep’s wool, preserving the warm cream, ivory, and off-white tones of the fleece itself.
What sets a real Beni Ourain apart is the wool. The Atlas Mountains rise above 3,000 metres, and the sheep that graze there grow a thick, lanolin-rich fleece that feels cool in summer and warm underfoot in winter. There is no synthetic fibre, no chemical dye, and no machine-made shortcut — just raw wool, hand-spun thread, and the symbolic geometric patterns each weaver carries from her family.
Diamonds, lozenges, asymmetric lines — these motifs are not decoration alone. In Berber weaving tradition, they carry meaning: protection, fertility, lineage, the rhythm of the land. Because every rug is woven freehand without a pattern template, no two Beni Ourain rugs in our collection are identical. Each one is signed by its weaver and ships worldwide with a certificate of authenticity.
